Trans, Non-Binary, Gender Non-Conforming Name Change

Beck Law Center is currently offering pro bono legal services to help trans or non-binary people or anyone who is gender non-conforming. We believe everyone should be free to identify as they wish. We are proud to help people legally change their names and gender identifiers on some legal documents including a birth certificate and driver's license.

Beck Law Center reserves the right to decline to accept a new client for any lawful reason. Representation may be denied if Kimberly Beck or any other Beck Team member believes that the Beck Law Center workload is becoming too large to effectively represent all clients.

Many people feel like we have taken a few steps backward with recent court decisions and the behavior of some elected officials. Beck Law Center wants to take a step in the right direction. If you are trans, non-binary or otherwise gender non-conforming and you are ready to have your name legally changed or you are ready to your gender identifier changed on several legal documents, you have come to the right place. We offer pro bono legal services to help gendering non-conforming people "fix" their legal names and gender identification. Who qualifies?

Beck Law Center offers pro bono legal services to trans or non-binary people or anyone who is gender non-conforming. We want to help people get the gender listed on their birth certificates changed and their names legally changed. Must be a resident of Hamilton County, Ohio. Must not present a conflict of interest. No income or financial need restrictions. Beck Law Center reserves the right to withdraw if the client becomes uncooperative.

What does pro bono mean?

What do I have to do to take advantage of this opportunity?

Be trans, non-binary, or gender non-conforming and be ready for your name change or gender identification change on several legal documents.

You will need to either email fixmyname@becklawcenter.com or fill out the contact form on this page. Someone from Beck Law Center will be in contact to discuss whether you qualify.

Then, you will be required to sign a contract with Beck Law Center that says you will not be required to pay for legal services associated with the name change, but you will have to pay for filing fees and other costs.

You will need to work with a Beck Law Center team member and supply all the information required by the court.

We will also need you to stay in touch with Beck Law Center, which means you will need to notify Beck Law Center if you have a change of address, phone number or email address.

Beck Law Center will submit the necessary forms.

You will need to appear at the Hamilton County Probate Court located in downtown Cincinnati at least one time.

Is there anyone who is not allowed to change thier name?

Yes, the most common reasons why someone is not allowed to change their name or gender identification on legal documents are:

-a judge has already told you that you are not permitted to change your name.

-to avoid your creditors or any other financial responsibilities.

-in order to evade criminal prosecution.

-to avoid deportation.

-for the purpose of committing fraud.

There may be other circumstances prohibiting you from changing your name.
