Updates About Elder Abuse Awareness Month!

In March 2025, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine agreed to Beck Law Center's request to declare November "Elder Abuse Awareness Month."  Beck Law Center believes that Elder Abuse is a prevalent problem that goes largely unrecognized.

November is the month to really spread awareness.  Holidays bring out the worst in people because they are stressful.  November kicks off the "holidays."  A very large number of Americans celebrate Thanksgiving in November, and then Christmas in December.  We realize that many people do not celebrate these holidays, and do not intend to overlook those people.  Instead, we picked the month that would likely provide that greatest impact.

 

The timeline below sets forth the progress we are making to ensure that Elder Abuse Awareness Month as impactful as we can.

February 2025

BLC reaches out to the State of Ohio, the City of Cincinnati and the Counsel on Aging to argue that November should be recognized as Elder Abuse Awareness Month.

March 2025

Governor Mike Dewine agrees to declare November Elder Abuse Awareness Month.
